Kentucky PGA Junior Tour's 2020 Ends with Great Finishes at Lou Perry Tour Championship

LEXINGTON, KY (October 18, 2020) – Spooky season descended upon University Club of Kentucky on Sunday for the final round of the Lou Perry Tour Championship and the 2020 season. There was some rain and some wind on an overcast day in Lexington which produced some early Halloween vibes. It all made for a challenging day of conditions to close out the season, but the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour’s stars were up for the challenge and closed out the 2020 season in great style.

Jay Nimmo was able to win the Boys Championship Division and had the lowest 36-hole score of the field to go with it by shooting 144 (E) for the event. That was good enough for a two-stroke margin of victory over Allan Lockwood. Nimmo shot 74 (+2) in the final round to arrive at that mark. It became a little more interesting down the stretch than he might have preferred, as he held a six-stroke lead midway through the final round that started fading because of a difficult last six holes. In the end, however, the tough finish didn’t matter and he followed up his KHSAA State Championship title with a big win on the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour.

Casey Powell was on top of her game and it got her an easy victory in the Girls Championship Division. Entering the day only one stroke ahead, an impressive round of 71 (-1) glided her to a nine-shot win over Lauren Coast. Powell was stunningly consistent on the day. She made an eagle on the par-five 7th, had sixteen pars and only one bogey which came on the par-four 11th. A sterling performance from the senior at Paul Dunbar High School.

Joe Hamilton also got to enjoy a smooth track to victory today, doing so in the Boys 15-18 Division. He ended the tournament at 145 (+1) which won the title by eleven shots over Charlie Alley.

The Girls 13-15 Division goes to Athena Singh who got a half-dozen shot margin of victory thanks to ending the tournament at 150 (+6). Cailyn Rogers finished runner-up to Singh.

Two rounds of even par for Jacob Settles gave him a concluding score of 144 (E) and the trophy in the Boys 14 & Under Division. He won by five shots with Palmer McKelvey coming in second.

A playoff was needed in the Boys 11-12 Division which went the way of Luc Kelty. Landon Hunt was defeated by Kelty after two holes of a sudden-death playoff which Kelty won with a birdie. The two players finished the tournament at 84 (+12).

Carol Ann Mendenhall got a one-stroke victory in the Girls 12 & Under Division thanks to her second straight round of 42 on the way to a total score of 84 (+12). CeCelia Ray finished in second place.

Andrew Perry got a two-shot win in the Boys 10 & Under Division over Drayden Lindsey. Perry’s 41 (+5) led to a tournament score of 80 (+8).

Emlie Miller ended her phenomenal 2020 season with a five-shot win over her younger sister Kylie. Emlie finished the tournament at 74 (+26) in the Girls 9 & Under Division.

Rounding out the list of winners is Paxton Fuqua who won the Boys 8 & Under Division by four shots over Cooper Brooks. Fuqua had an under-par round today on the way to 52 (+4).
