2018 All-State High School Teams Recognized

The Girls and Boys All-State High School Teams, along with Mr. and Ms. Golf and the 2018 KHSAA State Team Champions, were recognized last Sunday by the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association and Golf House Kentucky.  The All State Golf First and Second Teams are chosen by points earned in high school Invitational, Regional Tournaments and the KHSAA State Championship. Invitationals submit their results to the All-State Points Committee comprised of Directors from Golf House Kentucky, the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association, and boys and girls high school coaches.

Junior John Marshall Butler (Trinity High School) and junior Laney Frye (Lexington Christian Academy) also earned honors as Kentucky’s 2018 Mr. & Ms. Golf .

Butler totaled 830 points and edged senior C.M. Mixon (South Warren High School) by 60 points using totals from the best seven All-State Point Invitational results during the regular season plus placement in the Regional and State Tournaments. Butler capped off his season by winning the 2018 Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac KHSAA State Championship while Mixon finished as the Runner-Up. During the season, Butler finished with ten Top 10 finishes in Invitational tournaments with one win and three runner-up finishes while winning the Boys Region 6 Championship. This is the second time Butler has earned a spot on the First Team.

Frye totaled 860 points after being a member of the All-State First Team in 2017. Frye secured the Ms. Golf Award by finishing as the Champion of the 2018 Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac KHSAA State Championship. During the regular season, Frye finished in the Top 3 in ten Invitational tournaments including six wins. This year’s runner-up was junior Rylea Marcum (Scott County High School) who finished 65 points behind Frye with a total of 795 points.
