Laney Frye knew she needed a big final round at Cherry Blossom Golf Club to win the Kentucky Girls Junior Amateur. Entering the final round three strokes behind Faith Martin and Addie Westbrook, Frye switched her game into another gear during the final round to shoot an incredible 64 (-8) to pull away for a four-stroke margin of victory, finishing the event at 137 (-7).

Frye’s final round got launched by a chip-in eagle on the par-five 5^th which at the time tied her for the lead. After another birdie on the par-four 6^th, she took the solo lead which she kept for the remainder of the day. Seven birdies and two bogeys later, it was officially Frye’s title and her second huge win on the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour this summer. Frye now adds this title to her Kentucky Girls Junior PGA Championship which was won last month at The University Club at Arlington. She will now be traveling to Connecticut and Wisconsin in the coming weeks as to compete in the Girls Junior PGA Championship and US Girls Junior.

“It was pretty frustrating yesterday to shoot 73 (+1) by hitting 14 greens, but today the putter got hot, I started hitting my approach shots a bit closer to the hole, and it worked out pretty well,” Frye said with a laugh. “When I chipped in for eagle on the 5^th, it was my first under-par hole of the tournament and it just got the momentum going for me. It was a positive sign of things to come, I guess. I’m just so happy to get this win.”

Joining Frye in the winner’s circle today is Athena Singh, who captured the Girls 14 & Under Division with a 36-hole score of 159 (+15). She topped Madison Glisson by one stroke and Tatjana Andracenko by two strokes.

ROUND TWO NOTES

• While Frye reached another level with her golf game today, Faith Martin was not far behind her. Martin posted a back-nine score of 32 (-4) which included birdies on 10, 13, 14, and 15 to make Frye work for the win. In the end, Martin came up short of Frye, but still had a three-stroke cushion over her nearest competitor to claim 2^nd place.
• The aforementioned eagle from Frye on the 5^th was the only eagle recorded by any player throughout the tournament.
• The par-four 6^th was the easiest hole of the final round. It played to an average of 0.32 strokes over par today.
• The par-five 17^th played slightly easier on Tuesday, but was still the hardest hole on the golf course. After playing at an average of +1.25 on Monday, it played +1.05 during the final round.
